Our Newcastle Speech therapists will help you and your child with a range of dyslexia therapy options
What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is not a disease, rather a condition which means the individual struggles with reading, spelling and writing. There are different types of dyslexia which need individual treatment to assist a child to maximise their potential in terms of learning abilities and specifically reading and spelling competency.
Can you assess and diagnose Dyslexia?
Parents and teachers often recognise the signs of Dyslexia when the child is in primary school. A clinical psychologist formally diagnoses Dyslexia and will refer the child to a speech pathologist for intervention. We will then assess the client to determine the level of breakdown and be able to provide treatment options.
Do you treat Dyslexia?
The team at Harrison Speech Pathology are trained in treating Dyslexia. We identify the level of breakdown occurring in the reading and spelling process and use appropriate techniques to target and remediate reading accuracy, speed and comprehension deficits as well as spelling impairments.
We also teach parents strategies and treatment techniques to help rectify reading and spelling skill deficits and impairments.
