We offer speech therapy for toddlers and children in Newcastle
What is paediatric speech therapy?
Paediatric speech therapy is simply speech therapy which addresses the communication issues of the child. The team at Harrison Speech Pathology are trained in paediatric speech therapy, and can effectively assess and treat your child. We look at the varying areas of their development, from behaviour to cognitive and motor skills. This assessment helps determine our future treatment methods and allows us to effectively determine your child’s current capabilities in comparison with the developmental normative data.
When would my child suit this therapy?
Children who have difficulty pronouncing specific sounds and have difficulty being understood by peers, family members or other communication partners would benefit from paediatric speech therapy.
Children with dyspraxia (a motor planning disorder) also benefit from ongoing speech therapy with our speech pathologists.
How does children’s speech therapy work?
Paediatric speech therapy is utilised to target impairments in a child’s ability to formulate individual speech sounds accurately. Speech therapy assists a child to speak clearly and intelligibly. The goal is to ensure successful interactions with communication partners, and avoid frustration from not being understood.
Our speech pathology team works regularly with the client to provide individual intervention which is focused, motivating and engaging. We are dedicated to a client-lead approach, so we are using the client’s interests in our activities and treatments.
Parents can expect to learn strategies to assist their child to articulate various speech sounds accurately to help them to be clearly understood by others. We like to engage parents and caregivers throughout our treatment, to help make the therapy an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
